WISHING VWSA A HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY - 31 AUGUST 2011
The 31st of August is the 60th birthday of the first Beetle to come off the production line at the factory in Uitenhage. This little brown "Splittie" Beetle can be seen at the AutoPavilion. On this day in 2011, a group of hardened VW fans and collectors, visited the factory for a tour of the plant and of the AutoPavilion to celebrate the historic moment. The leader of the group, Chris van den Heever of Uitenhage, owns some 42 Beetles of which at least 24 is in perfect road-going condition. All over the country celebrations are being held and/or planned for this month by VW clubs. There will also be a "logo day" at Frans Conradie school in Despatch where the well-known VW roundel will be formed by parking cars in a huge circle and forming the VW badge while aerial pictures are being taken.
